James Barnes is based out of Houston, Texas. Prior to joining Eagle River Energy Advisors, Mr. Barnes was Director of Negotiated Transactions at PLS in its Acquisition and Divestment group. Mr. Barnes joined PLS in November 2012 and spent his entire time focused on upstream asset acquisitions and divestitures.

During his time at PLS, James was involved in over $400 million in oil and gas asset transactions; including working interest, royalties, and mineral interests. Mr. Barnes also performed duties as Project Manager for the A&D group; ensuring timelines/deadlines were met in regards to getting packages out to market in a timely manner and meeting clients’ expectations regarding summary presentation materials and the sales process in general.

Mr. Barnes has worked hundreds of transactions in all of the major basins and oil and gas producing areas; including the Eagle Ford, Gulf Coast, Rockies, Permian, Midcontinent, Appalachian and DJ Basins.

James has worked with a variety of oil and gas asset owners ranging from small family offices to large Majors.

Prior to joining PLS, Mr. Barnes served four years Active Duty in the United States Navy. He was assigned to VFA-25 F/A-18C squadron, which was attached to the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and completed four deployments to the Persian Gulf in support of “Enduring Iraqi Freedom” & “Supporting Iraqi Freedom” campaigns.

Mr. Barnes attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he received a degree in Technical Management, Summa Cum Laude. James is in the process of obtaining his MBA from Sam Houston University.
